PANTERA SAINT-MONTAIGNE

I’m a performing songwriter. My music is cross-pollinated soul, a mixture of soul, pop, folk and whatever musical spirit moves me.

I was born in the melting pot of Brooklyn, NYC. My folks were activists and I’m the middle child, between a geologist sister and a trucker brother. Growing up, I listened to Verdi’s Aida, the Rolling Stones, James Brown and Chaka Khan incessantly. The first instrument I learned to play was the violin, with which I tortured the household from 4th grade onwards. Picking up the guitar proved to be a more welcomed instrument and I began composing songs.

I went to Music & Art High School and thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in music each day. College was interesting but I dropped out to sing in a rock band. My family freaked but the musician in me took flight.

I’m self-taught on piano and it is my main songwriting instrument. Taking workshops at the Songwriters Hall of Fame taught me the craft of creating great songs. My last album, Yummy, was released on my label Orisha Records. With a little help from my friends my music has been used in films, on TV and I’ve done some voiceovers for video games.

Now, I’m working on something totally new, “Brooklyn Mojo – Episode 1”. It’s the first of my 2-EP set. I asked some of my damn good friends  David M. Patterson (guitar), Wouter Koster (guitar), Winston Roye (bass & drums), Chuck Batton (drums), Sonya Heller (vocals), Rhonda Denet (vocals), Will Miller (vocals) and Eric Martz (art direction and marketing guru). to work with me on this project. They all said yes!

“Praying for Peace”, the first single from Brookyn Mojo- EP 1, will be released in May 2012. Woo Hoo!
